Trees for Farmers (T4F) has started to work in Busia sub-County of Busia County in Kenya.
To date, T4F has succeeded in identifying and training 2 CTAs who have planted 15,000 tree seedlings with 150 farmers. Tree species is Melia azaderach which can be profitably grown in this area
It produces timber of high quality
It grows fast (rotation 12 years)
It is resistant to termites
It is compatible with agroforestry practices
It is well known and highly valued by farmers in Busia County.
CTAs are also being trained to advise farmers on how to improve cassava crop productivity using varieties which are tolerant to the cassava mosaic virus.
